Notre Dame is a community of languages and cultures.
At Notre Dame RC School we have many members of staff and students who speak more than one language and who come from a variety of backgrounds.
In our school, students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) play a full part in our school community by supporting one another and are encouraged to flourish by being given the opportunity to work as Translators/Interpreters during events such as Open days and Parents’ evenings. Every month, as a whole school, we celebrate a different ‘Language of the month’ and embed the vocabulary into the curriculum.
English as an Additional Language
We welcome students with EAL and work hard to ensure they are fully supported in order to develop their skills and achieve their best.
Students who arrive in our school with very little or no English have a dedicated suite (Sister Dorothy Stang Room) where they familiarise themselves with the school and learn/develop basic English language skills. Additionally, EAL students receive regular support in-class, as well as after school at our EAL Homework Club in the Sister Dorothy Stang Room.
